Judy M. Thomas is a retired faculty member from the School of Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University and holds a certificate in botanical illustration. She has taught botanical art at several venues and will begin teaching at the Adkins Arboretum in Maryland in 2023. She exhibits regionally and participated in her fourth artist residency this year. She is the founder of the Chickahominy Colored Pencil Artists and was chair of the Plants of the James Project (PJRP) which was awarded a grant by the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA) in 2018 to illustrate plants native to central Virginia. She is a board member of the ASBA and serves as Chapter Co-Liaison. Judy is a mixed media artist and loves to illustrate both native plants and exotic topicals. She travels throughout the United States to illustrate regional plants. She will begin Virginia Master Naturalist training in 2023. Judy lives in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
