Anne Clippinger

Originally trained in comparative literature teaching and writing, Anne’s dedication to botanical art grew out of a love of gardens, the outdoors and hiking, in the Washington DC area and in the Cantabria region of Northern Spain where she spends part of the year. She works mainly in colored pencil on hot-pressed watercolor paper. She thinks of plants as small landscapes, and enjoys the way drawing makes her look more closely, opening up a world of light, form, color, and detail.

Anne has studied through Cornell University’s School of Integrative Plant Science Distance Learning Program, and the Brookside Gardens School of Botanical Art & Illustration. She has exhibited at Brookside Botanical Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland, and the Athenaeum in Alexandria, Virginia. One of 2014’s projects was to create a calendar of native plants of Cantabria, entitled “Flora Cantabra 2015.” Anne is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA), and serves as Education Co-Chair on the board of the Botanical Art Society of the National Capitol Region (BASNCR).
