BASNCR’s June 7th program is open to all visitors to the U.S. Botanic Garden. Following the member meeting, join us at 1:30 for Jerry Kurtzweg’s discussion of the role of botanical art in exploring the New World. Following the program, take a self-guided garden tour to view plants that explorers would have encountered.
Jerry Kurtzweg is a botanical artist who has spent his career working on environmental issues. Botanical art provides Jerry with the opportunity to combine his interest in the environment with two other interests, North American history and art. In his artwork, Jerry focuses on native plants, particularly those of the mid-Atlantic region and the Pacific Northwest. Jerry studied botanical art at the Corcoran College of Art & Design and the Brookside Garden School of Botanical Art & Illustration. His artwork has been included in a number of juried exhibitions. Jerry is a long-time Board member of the Botanical Art Society of the National Capital Region (BASNCR) and currently coordinates the organization’s exhibitions in the region.
